THE TREK

First, the Trek was the most spirital experience I have ever had! It was plain AMAZING!
We walked 48 miles! other then walking and pulling the handcart, our activities were: loading and shooting an old gun (the ones you see in civil war movies), reanacting the sweetwater crossing (more later), barrieing our baby Joe thirst (later), the womans pull, letters from our parents, Testimony meeting and more.
THE SWEETWATER CROSSING:
For those of you who dont know about the sweetwater crossing done by the Willie and Martin hand cart company, here it is.... The W and M hand cart company came to a river, in winter. It was freezing. They were going to sit and wait for it to be spring, but they didnt know if the suplise could get to them. Young men went from salt lake I think to help. They carried every person in the company over the river, and the hand carts. All of the young men who helped died later from complications. We did that, there was a dry river bed and some of the young men, maybe twenty or so, carried all 90 some of us across this dry bed. Alex Johnson (a 16 year old from my ward who used to live in Nyssa) played his volin and I cried.

On the Trek you were put in familys. I had a Ma and Pa, Four brothers, Ryan, Ben, David, and Victor, and two sisters, Sina and Carly. You ate with you family, pulled with your family, slept, and had divotionals. AND we had a baby doll we had to name then carry and take care of, his name was Joseph Thurston Henrry the 3rd(:
I got super close to everyone in my family, they all did something great for me, Ryan: One day my feet hurt and he held me captive in the cart, he put his arm around me when I was crying at the barrial, made me laugh, and much more. Ben: after the womans pull he came up to me and Sina and said "are you guys okay? you need anything? drinking enough water?", He said we were beautiful flowers in the plain dessert, later said he felt so bad not being able to help in the womans pull. David: He let me wear his hat all of the hottest day, everytime we stopped for a break he got his bucket out and let me sit on it, and when we were walking to the testimony he carried my bucket the whole way(: Victor: Just being nice and making me laugh.
Me and my sisters bonded too. on the third day we walked way far ahead of our company and Pape got Joe Thirst out of the cart. We took turns digging his grave and Carly wrapped him in a blanket. We set him in and finished barring him, we stuck a post in the ground, and tied a note to it that said, Joseph Thurston Henrry the 3rd " Joe thirst", Loved, Missed, REmembered. We stood there talking about eternal familys and the pioneers and I kept thinking, what if this was Kellen? What if I had to barry him and just walk away like they did? could I have done it? If it was any of my siblings I probably couldnt have done it. Any way, while we stood there the rest of the company cought up, people who werent pushing there own cart grabbed ours, It was so nice.

The womans pull was the woman pulling all the hand carts a mile by ourselves. Then men had to walk a ways away from us and just watch. Ben, David and Alex said it was one of the hardest things on the trek. Alex said his dad told him that when a woman is in physical or mental pain you help her, and he said that it was so hard not to. Same with david and Ben, they hated it.
The testimony meeting was amazing, Amen was bassically a cue, we all booked it up to the front. Ive never seen so many youth want to bare their testimony so bad. It lasted 3 hours. I bared mine by the way(: I talked for like 10 minutes. Anyway I have talked about it so much and Im done typing so if you want to hear more, call me maybe!(:
Yesterday I went to The new batman with like 15 boys and 4 other girls for Bens moving away thing and one boy bought me my ticket! Justt saying(: But it was a great movie(: and today Im going to a trek family party and mutual tonight(: Bye!

  2. What a great experience. I'm so glad it was spiritual for you. We can learn alot by walking in others' shoes (or treking, as the case may be!) Now you will be better able to write a pioneer story! Love you!
